IMPAX TSS Screen: Tool life

Tool life

The TSS tracks all machine production, and also uses this data to help monitor tool life. A series of tool counters are available, where expected tool life can be entered. Then, as parts are produced, the counters are updated, and when the preset values are reached, a warning is shown.

Using these counters to track tool life leads to accurate knowledge of how much wear a tool has seen. Simple time-based tool changes can cause a tool to be replaced too soon if a machine is run infrequently, or too late if a machine is run over-speed. But scheduling tool changes and maintenances based on actual production instead of using calendar time saves time and money, by performing service exactly when it is needed.

The TSS's counters can also be used to track maintenance tasks, quality inspections, or other periodic tasks. Each counter can be given a unique name and a separate expected life.
