IMPAX Sensors and Accessories

A variety of sensors and other accessories are available for use with IMPAX monitors, allowing the monitoring of a variety of machine processes. Here is a summary of some of these accessories. Note that not all sensors may be available or compatible for use with each type of monitor. Please also see Sensor Installation Guides for details on preparing tools, backing plates, wedges, and holders to accommodate our piezo sensors.

Sensors

Force Sensors IMPAX sensors use piezoelectric crystals, which detect force and pressure waves travelling through a material. Piezoelectric sensors offer high sensitivity, fast response times, and a robust solid-state design. Several types are available:
  • Superflex sensors are sensor probes designed for easy installation
  • Piezo Disc sensors can be easily surface-mounted with epoxy
  • Axflex sensors are designed to measure axial pressures and tensions
  • Strain sensors can detect tool or frame movement (compression/tension)
Motor Load Sensors Motor load sensors directly measure the load on a motor, by using the motor itself as a torque sensor. The sensor reads the motor's voltage and current draw, and determines its load in real-time. Monitors can then be used to detect high or low motor load situations, and to learn the correct load profile for a machine operation.
Short-Feed Sensors Short-feed sensors are force sensors embedded in a material feeding mechanism to detect short-feeds or mis-feeds. They can stop a machine before a short-feed creates a bad part, which can damage tooling and contaminate orders.
Accelerometers Accelerometers and other vibration sensors use piezoelectric crystals to detect movement, and can determine the speed and acceleration of the movement. They can monitor operations such as drilling, tapping, cutting, and shaving, detecting changes in these operations based on the resulting change to their vibration signature.

Accessories

Amplifiers Amplifiers are available to boost small sensor signals to more readable levels.
Sorting Gates Sorting Gates can be used to divert bad parts out of a production line without stopping the machine. This prevents bad parts from contaminating good product batches, or even damaging other machines, while allowing production to continue without interruption.

Other sensors and accessories may be available upon request. Not all sensors may be available or compatible for use with each type of monitor.
